Are travertine tiles & pavers expensive?
Travertine prices have recently come down, making it even more affordable. Travertine prices start from $49/m2 inc GST for tiles and pavers. Travertine Pool coping prices start from $28 per piece of 600x400x30mm.
Are travertine tiles & pavers slippery when wet?
Tumbled and unfilled travertine should be used externally around pool, pathways and pergolas (versus Chiseled or polished for only internal floor tile use). In regards to slipperiness tumbled and unfilled travertine has a coefficient of friction(.08) if I am not mistaken. That is very high and makes it NOT SLIPPERY.
Are travertine tiles & pavers durable?
Travertine Pavers are highly durable; they have been in nature for thousands of years and retain their color over time. This is actually one of the reasons why people choose Travertine over other materials, such as brick pavers, which begin to fade and crack within a year or two. Simply look at the Roman Colosseum… built 1,000’s of years ago out of TRAVERTINE.
Are travertine pavers hot?
Travertines light color and porous surface help it to stay cooler than other natural stone pavers. When the outside air temperature is 30 degrees, a light-colored travertine paver will have a surface temperature of around 35 degrees. When compared to Clay Pavers at 60 degrees OR Concrete at 45 degrees.
What are travertine tiles & pavers?
Travertine is a dense closely compacted form of Limestone found mostly in areas where circulating ground water contains Calcium carbonate. It often forms around the mouths of hot spring waters. Travertine crystallization occurs when calcium carbonate separates from water through evaporation.
How are travertine pavers & tiles installed?
Installation is simply as per other natural stone tiles EXCEPT Travertine should NEVER be acid washed.
What are travertine pavers & tiles made of?
Travertine is a rock made from carbonate minerals such as aragonite. In its natural and pure form, most travertine is white, but as impurities settle in, brown and yellow colors and hues begin to surface. Many times, areas that are rich in limestone see carbon-dioxide-rich water percolate through. Its actually very similar to Marble as well.
Do travertine pavers & tiles need to be sealed?
It is not necessary to seal Travertine, although doing so will bring out the natural beauty and splendor of the pavers and/or tiles. Sealing may be preferred indoors, in high traffic areas, or on a patio that is frequently used for entertaining, as it will protect against spills from food and wine which may stain the Travertine. We recommend ALWAYS sealing travertine with either a neutral, zero colour change or colour enhancing penetrating sealer ( NOT A SURFACE COATING SEALER).
Can you acid wash travertine pavers?
NEVER EVER UNLESS…. You have accidently used honed and filled tiles externally and simply want to roughen up the surface so its NON SLIP.
What is the cost of installation of travertine tiles?
The installation cost per m2 for travertine tiles will be no different than any other tile. Internally on a floor it should be around $75m2 inc the correct adhesive and grout. Normally it costs more to install on walls.
