As we all know you can get honed or polished surface on granite tiles, BUT is this the best surface finish for granite outdoor tiles and pavers around your swimming pool. The answer of course is a loud NO! When paving outdoors around a swimming pool a non slip surface is the only acceptable alternative. This is where FLAMED GRANITE PAVING comes into its own. We have attached a video below to enable you to visually understand this process.
Flamed Granite– This process, as the name indicates, involves using a hot torch flame and running it over the surface of the stone to create a textured, non-slip finish that has a semi-rough surface. After Flaming the granite is then steel brushed 2 times to take away the harshness of the flaming, yet retaining the high non slip surface. During this process you will note in the video that cold water is flooded across the granite surface, this is to avoid any surface cracks occurring during the extreme heat being applied to the granites surface during flaming.
